Lawrence Louis Epperson, 94, died on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at Azria Health Rose Vista in Woodbine. He was born on Feb. 8, 1931, in Dunlap, to Orrie Donald and Mary Lorena (Petty) Epperson. He grew up in southwest Iowa and attended school in Magnolia. Larry served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, where he embodied the values of commitment and sacrifice. His military service was a significant chapter in his life, one that shaped him into the honorable man many came to know and respect. He was united in marriage to Velma Arbaugh on July 18, 1954, and they were blessed with three boys, Ron, Bob and Scott. Larry worked for over 24 years at Whittaker Ford in Council Bluffs and then sold John Deere equipment at the Morrissey and Macedonia Implement’s until his retirement in his 80’s. 

Larry put his heart into the simple yet profound joys of life. He found solace and satisfaction in taking care of his yard. However, it was time spent with family that truly brought him the greatest joy. Larry Epperson leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, a testament to a life well-lived.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bob Epperson; and siblings, Dolores Radebaugh, Mike Epperson and Donald Epperson. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Velma Epperson; sons, Ron and his wife Laura Epperson of Hickman, Neb. and Scott and his wife Dawn Epperson of Magnolia; grandchildren, Jamie (Chris) Tracy, Chad (Erika) Epperson, Skyler (Kaelin) Epperson, Dylan (Anna) Epperson, Jessie (Tony) Crum, Kevin Epperson, Tyler Epperson and Nate (Sarah) Epperson; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Tim (Rochelle) Epperson, Patty (Art) Hinkel, Darryl (Jeannie) Epperson and Ralph (Pam) Epperson all of Colorado; and many other relatives and friends. 

A funeral service was held on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Pastor Daniel Robbins presided over the service. The recorded musical selections were “Amazing Grace” by Alan Jackson and “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill. The pallbearers were Ron Epperson, Scott Epperson, Chad Epperson, Skyler Epperson, Dylan Epperson and Nate Epperson. Graveside military rites were performed by VFW post # 6256. Larry’s final resting place is at the Magnolia Cemetery.
