Harold R. O’Neill, 78

Harold Richard “Rick” O’Neill, age 78, passed away on Jan. 24, 2026, at his home in Logan. Rick was born July 23, 1947, in Council Bluffs, to the late Harold D. and Thelma (Foje) O’Neill and he graduated from Tri~Center High School, Neola, in 1965.

Rick proudly served in the US Navy from 1967-1971, where he was assigned to a squadron out of San Diego being deployed to the aircraft carrier Ranger off the coast of Viet Nam, as an avionic technician. His employment years were spent at Omaha Steel, farming the family farm near Beebeetown, owner-operator of RD’s Restaurant, as well as 10 years at the Logan-Magnolia school as a custodian and bus driver.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Patricia (Patti), three sons: Brian (Marci) of Fernly, Nev., Chad of Pocatello, Idaho, Jason (Nichole) of Gilbert, Ariz.; five grandchildren; three stepchildren Matt Holben of Winter Garden, Fla., Meri (Mark) Clausen of Missouri Valley, Megan (Ricky) Stokes of Prague, Neb.; and eight step-grandchildren including Gabe (Stephanie) Holben of Altoona whom they raised; brothers Paul (Patsy) of Council Bluffs and Randy (Wanda) of Carroll; four nephews; and multiple cousins; along with two sisters-in-law Evelyn (Kent) McBride of Logan and Elaine McIntosh Hatcher of Hesperia, Calif.

Rick was an active member of the community serving on the Harrison County Landfill Board as well as a member of the VFW Post 6256 in Logan. He was also a longtime member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan.

Services were conducted Feb. 3, 2026, at Immanuel Church in Logan.
