Billy Benson, 80, died on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. He was born on June 7, 1945, in Council Bluffs, to Clarence and Eithel (Parrack) Benson. He grew up in Honey Creek and attended school in Missouri Valley. After graduation, Bill was drafted into the United States Army and served our country in the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge, Bill worked at Vickers Hydraulics in Omaha, Neb. and helped his dad on the farm. In October of 1984, he was united in marriage to Lori Sorey in Logan and they were blessed with two children, Jackie and Jason. Bill enjoyed farming and spent time working for Hugh Hanks and for the Harper family. He also worked at the elevator in Woodbine until his retirement in 2010. Even after retiring he helped Tony Smith on the farm.

Bill was known for his love of Hot Rod Tractor Pulls, where he showcased not only his passion for machinery but also his competitiveness and spirit. The thrill of the county fairs, particularly the Spencer Fair, held a special place in his heart, drawing him back year after year.
