Barbara Lynn Schommer passed away on March 11, 2024, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. She was born on Feb. 16, 1947, in Mitchell, S.D., to Gordon and Elsamarie (Nordquist) Thune. She graduated from Mitchell Senior High School in 1965. She graduated from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D., with a BA in Nursing. She continued her education while working in the home health profession at the University of Minnesota where she earned her MS degree in nursing. Preceding her in death were her husband, Tom Schommer; her parents, Gordon and Elsamarie Thune; and brother, Ronald Thune. Barb is survived by her brothers, Gary Thune (Avis), Jame Thune (Jeanne), and David Thune (Corrine); cherished nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and her foster daughter, Thuy Lam and Thuy’s two sons.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie, MN. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., services at 11a.m., with lunch following. Interment will be at Fort Snelling, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 11:30a.m. www.evansnordby.com. CaringBridge.org.
