Recovery continues after Food Land fire in Woodbine

First responders and area businesses have stepped up in the wake of a fire at Food Land in Woodbine last week.

The Harrison County Communication Center received a report of a structure fire at 62 Fifth St. in Woodbine on Aug. 19 at 3:47 p.m., according to Woodbine Fire and Rescue Chief Dustin Moores.

From there, the Woodbine Fire Department dispatched and arrived on scene to find fire and heavy smoke inside Food Land. Mutual aid agencies including 11 additional fire departments responded, a release from Moores said. The Woodbine Police Department and Harrison County Conservation established traffic control.

There were no injuries reported.

Good Fellows donated sandwiches and chips to feed responders working the fire, and following the response Food Land took to social media to share thanks.

We are so thankful for the amazing response and tremendous effort by all of the first responders yesterday,a Facebook post by the store read. You are all heroes! Thank you to our amazing community for your outreach! We have already started the process for rebuilding and reopening and will post updates as we have them.

The store also encouraged members of the community to shop at fellow independent community grocers at the next town over from Woodbine in each direction Smitty's Grocery in Dunlap or Logan Super Foods in Logan.

At this time, no cause for the fire has been reported.
