Anthony “Tony” Joseph Hammitt, of Missouri Valley, was born on July 21, 1987, to Anita Longmeyer and Roger Hammitt in Omaha, Neb. Tony passed away Sunday, July 14th, 2024, in Missouri Valley, at the age of 36 years 11 months 358 days.

Tony graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 2006, after which he attended Iowa Western Community College. While attending IWCC, Tony began working at Menards as a manager in Council Bluffs before becoming employed by Bunge of North America.

Tony had a passion for spending time with his family and friends, whether at the Lake of the Ozarks, cheering on his Iowa Hawkeyes or Kansas City Chiefs, enjoying live music, playing pool, karaoke in the living room, playing cards or simply catching up.

Tony was a proud member of the United Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. On April 21, 2024, Tony was baptized alongside his daughter, Cleo. Tony was very passionate about having God in his life and spreading His word. Tony was a member of the Eagles Club in Missouri valley and enjoyed volunteering his time cooking and serving dinner on Friday nights.

Tony cherished his wife Shanna and daughters, Cleo Hammitt and Lola Marshall and loved being a husband, father, uncle, brother, son and friend to so many.

Tony had many passions including taking care of his yard and completing landscaping projects around their home. He also had a love for unique and exquisite rocks, a passion he shared with his daughters.

Tony could light up a room with his infectious smile and loving charisma. Words can’t explain the importance of his life, love and friendship to so many. Tony was a great friend to so many and impacted so many people throughout his short time with us and he will be forever missed.

Tony is survived by his wife, Shanna; daughters, Cleo Hammitt and Lola Marshall, of Missouri Valley; parents, Anita Longmeyer (Dave) of Stover, Mo.; sister, Atina Hammitt (David Kelley) of Council Bluffs; brother, Ryan Hammitt of Missouri Valley; sister, Laura Hammitt of Woodbine; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Tony is preceded in death by his father, Roger Hammitt; grandparents, Claude and Bernice Hammitt of Logan and Melvin and Virginia Pearson of Missouri Valley.
