Albert Thomas Bertelson, known to many as Tom, passed away peacefully at home in Missouri Valley, on Oct. 4, 2025, with his beloved wife Judy by his side.
Born on Nov. 8, 1940, to Patricia (Tierney) and James “Gene” Bertelson in Missouri Valley, Tom was the second of four children, alongside siblings James, Daniel, and Patricia (Bertelson) Rodenburg. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1958, and married the love of his life, Judith Hendrix, on Aug. 25, 1963. Together they raised two children, Richard “Tom” and Traci.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Gene; his brother Jim; his grandson Colton; his nephew Nathan; and his sister-in-law Bonnie. He is survived by his wife Judy Bertelson of Missouri Valley; children, Tom Bertelson of Pisgah, and Traci (Bart) Clemons of Pisgah; grandchildren, Zachary Anderson (Brittney Cunard) of Council Bluffs, and Skyler (Ben) Hoyt of Missouri Valley; and step-grandchildren, Carly Clemons and Noah Clemons of Omaha, Neb.
Tom also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Bertelson (Colton), Brantson Hoyt, Brooks Cunard, Belle Anderson, Brecken Hoyt, and Saige Hoyt; and step-great-grandchildren Bodi Cunard, Norah Clemons, Jase and Silas Cusick, and Elena Thurman; brother Daniel Bertelson of Starkville MS. and sister, Patty (Bertelson) Rodenburg of Missouri Valley, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
We are comforted knowing Tom is reunited with his Lord Jesus, his parents, brother, and grandson. His love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all who knew him.
funeral: Sunday, October 12th, 1 PM – Celebration of Life including prayers and a luncheon will be held at the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley.
