Minutes of the Special Meeting Board of Directors Missouri Valley Community School District Monday, March 24, 2025 Call to Order President Jeff Janssen called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the District Office Conference Room, 109 East Michigan Street, Missouri Valley, Iowa. Roll Call Present: Jeff Janssen, John Ferris, Bridget Myler, Joanna Barnard, and Carrie Watson Absent: None Also Present: Superintendent Christi Gochenour and Secretary Ashley Anderson APPROVE AGENDA Director Watson motioned to approve agenda. Director Barnard seconded. All Ayes; motion carried. PUBLIC HEARING 2025-2026 First Public Hearing President Janssen provided the opening statement to explain the notice provided and the certified budget process. Written Comments Don Stanley opposed to further increases. PPEL just passed with only 7% of voters participating. County wide 30% increase in value. Annual allowable growth. Enough student enrollment is declining, fewer teachers needed, potential for increase in fund from closure of Dept of Education (Federal). Kris Cunard stated I am here to be educated about the process. I as a tax payer am inclined to support the “DOGE” concept that my property taxes are high enough currently. Oral Comments Six guests attended and provided comments of wanting to learn about the process, stating tax rates are already high enough, and confusion on the mandated property tax letter mailing. ADJOURNMENT The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 14, 2025, to begin at 6:00 P.M. Director Ferris made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and Director Myler seconded.
