Logan-Magnolia Community School April 8, 2026 The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education of the Logan-Magnolia Community School District was held on the above date at 6:00 P.M. in the high school media center. Roll call vote was answered by President Julie Witte, Vice President Derrick Mether, Director Leslie Vicary, Director Nikki Allen, and Director Travis Kuhlman. Also in attendance was Superintendent Jacob Hedger, Secondary Principal Blake Dickinson, Elementary Principal Jill Kiger and Business Manager Daniel Mikels. Please see the attached list for everyone else attending the meeting. 2. Review/Change/Approve Agenda Derrick Mether moved to approve the agenda, seconded by Travis Kuhlman, carried. 5-0. 3. Public Speakers No Public Speakers 4. Administrators/ Directors’ Reports Ceci Alvis spoke to the board about becoming all-state speech and quiz bowl. During this she spoke about qualifying from districts and getting their ratings and then moving on to the all-state in Cedar Falls. She thanked both her coaches from speech and quiz bowl. Elementary Principal Jill Kiger Noteworthy events: * March was a busy month. Conferences were well attended and we were just shy of 100% participation. * Students in fourth grade had STEM, WaterRocks and a field trip to the Luminarium in the same week. * The elementary music students celebrated our music program with concerts. It was grand to have all the bands “on stage” at the same time. Our elementary students loved dressing up and sharing their songs with everyone and our preschool students had their stage debut at Grandparents’ Day. * Students in grades 3-5 participated in ISASP testing. * Huge shoutout to Mrs. Thompson and Ms. Brenden who managed the elementary. I’m really proud of the effort our students gave and will be excited to see the results in the coming months. * April showers ushered in the new month, and the elementary was delighted to host a gym full of grandparents and friends on the 2nd. * The elementary celebrated our CKH Courage winners, sang and danced, and enjoyed the presence of loved ones in our classrooms. * STEM will be back for the final visit, preschool staff will be finishing up the professional development centered on best practices for intervention, and field trips continue. * In the last week of April we will begin our final rounds of testing for math and literacy as required by the state. Our preschool staff is trying to do something new this year and bringing in all our new 3’s and 4’s for visit on April 24. * The Lions Club staff will screen vision, and we’ll bring the AEA into screen hearing. Ceci Alvis was selected to perform at the All-State Speech Festival. *Ten students attended the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference. -National Qualifier: Theo Tallman (1st Place, Cabinetmaking) — will represent the school at the National Competition. -Other Top 3 Finishers: Ethan Hack (2nd Place), Justin Burnham (2nd Place), Gracyn Stone & Kodee Johnson (3rd Place) *17 middle and high school students participated in the WIC Honor Band. *Special Olympics: Exceptional performance at the State Basketball Skills in Iowa City: -1st Place: Natalee Gale and Noah Morton, 2nd Place: Chase Hotz Notable Events *Hosted the first Parade of Bands and annual Pops Concert featuring bands, choirs, jazz band, and show choir. *Spring Sports: Seasons are officially underway for Track & Field, Soccer, and Golf. *Jr./Sr. New York City Trip: 49 students traveled to NYC, visiting the 9/11 Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Mets Stadium, and attending a Broadway show. *Prom 2026: Held at Willow Creek in Shelby, followed by Post-Prom festivities at Dave & Buster's. *Sophomores attended the IWCC Career Forum on campus to learn about potential future opportunities. *Drive Your Tractor to School Day: A successful community tradition with a couple dozen tractors in attendance. ISASP Testing: Successfully completed statewide summative assessments Superintendent Jacob Hedger Facility/Construction Items - *Updated “to do” list. *The timeline for the Science classroom renovation is moving along well and the first round of bidding is set to close April 15. *Bluetooth Completed! *Carpet areas are set to be replaced - Mr. Straight’s room, Music area, stage. *Wrestling room improvements are complete and waiting on mats to cure. *Administrators are starting to plan out our summer cleaning and maintenance schedule. *Crows Nest and dugout siding will begin in the next week or two. Monthly Newsletter - April Newsletter Staff Brags - *Mrs. Thompson- She works diligently to take care of all of the details for ISASP testing. She ensures all the dates are scheduled, rooms are assigned, proctors are arranged, and communications are done. Her work helps promote a positive testing experience for all staff and students. *Mrs. Kiger has been taking on a lot of responsibility to work through all the nuances of the Panther Room. This year has provided an extra amount of care and attention to make sure everything is getting done well. *Bandie Clark - She helped us out the past month and a half as we worked to find a new custodian. Board Policy Mr. Hedger and the board discussed the 200 policies. Mr. Hedger brought up about having a policy review by IASB done. 8. Strength and Conditioning Mr. Hedger and the board discussed adding a strength and conditioning program to the school. Travis Kuhlman moved to adding a Strength and Conditioning program at the school, $10,000.00 salary and the certifications are TBD by applications, seconded by Nikki Allen, discussed, carried. 5-0. 9. Panther Room Coordinator Mr. Hedger and the board discussed adding a Panther Room Coordinator. Nikki Allen moved to add a Panther Room Coordinator with the compensation TBD by qualifications of applicants, seconded by Travis Kuhlman, discussed, carried. 5-0. 10. Green Hills AEA MOU Derrick Mether moved to approve the Addendum to the Green Hills AEA MOU 2026-2027, seconded by Nikki Allen, carried. 5-0. 11. Partial Self-Funding Insurance Mr. Hedger spoke to the board about the district moving to partial self-funded insurance for the district. Questions were answered. 12. Open Meetings Transparency Mr. Hedger spoke to the board about board meetings and recording of the board meeting. Mr. Hedger spoke on what other schools do in the WIC. 13. Meeting Dates The board spoke about moving board meeting dates from Wednesday nights. Director Travis Kuhlman left the meeting at 8:23 P.M. 14.
