Two students selected to attend American Legion, Boys State, Girls State in June
The American Legion Post 143 from Woodbine is sponsoring area high school students from Woodbine and Logan to attend this summer's Boys State and Girls State civic camps in Des Moines.
Samuel Stone, Logan-Magnolia, will participate at Boys State at Camp Dodge, from June 21 – 26.
Caydi Schafer, from Woodbine, will be attending Girls State at Drake on June 14-19.
American Legion Boys State and Girls State programs are a six-day, immersive course in government where participants learn how city, county, and state governments function in Iowa. Delegates gain this knowledge through a very comprehensive hands-on experience in managing government activities. There are also athletic activities involving team sports.
Altogether, the programs create an environment where attendees can explore leadership, teamwork, practice citizenship, and experience democracy in action.
