If you have the drive to help others, then this drive will do everyone a world of good.

Head on up to the Woodbine First United Methodist Church this Saturday, where a spaghetti fundraiser dinner will remember a teen who died earlier this summer in an auto accident.

The dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. and will honor Wyatt Reed, who was killed June 11. Proceeds from the freewill donation meal and raffle tickets will go toward funeral and other expenses for the family, said Arianna Thacker, one of the organizers of the event.

The meal consists of spaghetti with a choice of red or alfredo sauce, salad and dessert, Thacker said. Matthew and Heather Reed remembered their son as someone who loved band. He was also an avid hunter and loved fishing.

“He was very fun-loving,” Matthew said of Wyatt. “He played bass guitar. He played other instruments, percussion instruments. He loved his band class, he loved his band members. His band teacher, Miss A.”

Wyatt participated in JR ROTC, demonstrating his commitment to discipline and leadership. He took great honor in being part of the Color Guard in Woodbine.

Matthew and Heather are already thinking about donating to the band program he loved so much. One possibility is to purchase a bass guitar for the band program, to replace the one Wyatt played. Wyatt’s instrument will be put on display in a case in the band room, Heather said.

The Reeds thanked the community.

“The support and love from the community, and friends, and of course family has been astronomically overwhelming,” Matthew said.

At this point, Matthew and Heather have no plans to make the fundraiser an annual event. The spaghetti fundraiser is one-time-only.

The benefit will be held at the First Methodist Church is at 509 Lincoln Way St. in Woodbine.
