Missouri Valley United’s under-14 boys soccer program is seeking sponsors and additional players as it works to expand playing opportunities for 23 boys from Missouri Valley and West Harrison.

The program fields two regular-season teams, the Redhawks and Nighthawks, which practice together. Players from both teams combine as Missouri Valley United for tournaments and special games, according to coach Russ Meadows.

Coaches are Frank Felner, Mike Livingston, Zach Handley, Nick Riza and Meadows. Felner, Missouri Valley High School’s head soccer coach, leads the effort. The program emphasizes discipline, responsibility, sacrifice and brotherhood, with the message: “Victory is the goal. Character is the standard.”

The team hopes to play an 11-on-11 game against a Blair select team Sept. 26, although details remain unsettled. Participation in an Oct. 23-25 tournament is awaiting sufficient sponsorship funding, and coaches are considering one or two spring tournaments.

The program’s fundraising goal is $3,600, with approximately nine jersey-logo sponsorship spots available at $400 each. Businesses may purchase multiple spots for a larger logo. Sponsor names and logos would appear on jerseys used for the remainder of fall and throughout spring.

Funds would help pay for jerseys, tournament entry fees and updated equipment. Two sets of jerseys would cost approximately $1,200, while a red-only set would cost about $600. Tournament entry fees are estimated at $800 to $1,200 per tournament.

The Youth Enhancement Association is assisting with sponsorships. Checks may be made payable to YEA with “MVU” in the memo line.
