Missouri Valley is withholding a final $98,000 payment to Rogge General Contractors, Inc. until outstanding work on the city’s fire station addition is completed or corrected, according to City Councilman Aaron Tuttle and Schemmer project representative William “Bill” Huey.
In written responses following the Sept. 15 council meeting, Huey said the city was using the withheld payment to press for completion of remaining project items. He identified his role as the project representative for the architect/engineer during construction.
“The final payment to the General Contractor will not be released until the items identified are corrected or replaced, to the city’s satisfaction,” Huey said.
Tuttle also said the money would remain on hold until the city was satisfied with the remaining work. Neither provided a specific completion date.
“We are holding final payment of $98,000 as a retainer, until we are certain all loose ends are done to satisfaction,” Tuttle said.
Huey described the outstanding concerns as “lingering incomplete or improperly functioning items of construction or operation.” He said changes to the construction contract’s terms require City Council approval.
Tuttle said he did not expect the remaining work to extend into winter and was looking forward to an Oct. 10 open house at the new station addition.
“I don't foresee this going into the winter months,” Tuttle said. “We are almost to the finish line.”
