Modale celebrates the Holidays on Dec. 5
Modale’s Annual Christmas Celebration with Santa Claus was held on Dec. 5 at the Legion Hall. Despite Mother Nature giving a plethora of different kinds of moisture, it was an excellent turnout.
Santa arrived at the Legion Hall in a fire truck dressed in blue sparkling lights. The Chili Cookoff winners include, 1st place) Kathy Tull; 2nd place) The Modale Methodist Church; 3rd place) Diane Pratt, Modale’s Librarian. “Santa’s pick” went to DeCarlos Diner.
A Silent Auction bids went to the newly reorganized Town and Country Arts with some upcoming expenses. Their building is on the Historical Registry and needs some restoration. The community is coming together to help in this process.
The Outdoor Lighting began with The Modale Methodist Church Choir and friends caroling around the Christmas tree. There was a spectacular array of lighted decorations and Santa’s Village around the hall. Many new items were added this year, including a little house decorated like a Post Office with a special mailbox for letters to Santa, a house decorated as a knitting factory where gloves and hats were given to the children, and another little house decorated as a Sweet Shop where cookies were given out to decorate.
One main attraction was a house decorated as a bank and was justly named, “Lorraine’s Community Bank” in memory of Lorraine Thomas. As a member of the committee who was instrumental in starting this downtown lighting, it was a way to honor her. A lighted angel was placed on top. Candy bars in the shape of dollar bills were given out to all who wanted.
The final attraction was a wonderful donation of an Inn and stable replicating a nativity scene. Lighted Mary and Joseph adorned baby Jesus while lighted shepherds with their sheep, and 3 wise men watched. These donations will be remembered for years to come.
On the way back into the legion hall, children passed a little water tower following a path of lighted candy canes toward the end where they were able to roast marshmallows for s’mores. The Modale Fire Department was present teaching the little ones how to do it safely.
