MoJoe’s Café & Market celebrates five-years at MVHS

Missouri Valley High School is celebrating a special milestone—five years of MoJoe’s Café & Market, the school-based coffee shop and student-run enterprise that has become a cornerstone of hands-on learning and school spirit.

Launched in 2020, MoJoe’s Café & Market was created as part of the business  education program to give students real-world experience in customer service, entrepreneurship, finance, and management. What started as a FBLA project has grown into a thriving, student-operated business serving teachers, staff, and students.

Over the past five years, dozens of students have played key roles in the success of MoJoe’s. They’ve learned how to design marketing materials, manage inventory, handle transactions, and deliver great customer service—all while gaining valuable employability skills that prepare them for life after high school.

“MoJoe’s has been an incredible learning experience for our students,” said Mrs. Carrie Kohl, business instructor and FBLA adviser at Missouri Valley High School. “They take ownership of almost everything from scheduling and budgeting to product development and promotion. It’s not just a school coffee shop—it’s a classroom in action.”

The café has also built a strong sense of community within the school. Teachers and staff stop by daily and students often collaborate to create seasonal menus, fundraisers, and special promotions.

As MoJoe’s Café & Market looks ahead to the upcoming years, the mission remains the same: to brew up great coffee, strong leadership, and lasting skills for Missouri Valley students.
