May Early Art Show Winners selected

 

Pam Cates from Missouri Valley was the honorary judge at the “Up & Coming Artists” Art Show at the Moorhead Cultural Center.

 

Pam attended graphic arts training at Studio Academy in Omaha after High School and went on to work at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Graphic Arts Department and Boys Town Research Hospital Graphic Arts Department. She earned her bachelor’s degree with art as her major.  Pam has been a successful watercolor artist, earning awards and participating in various art shows over the years and belonged to many art groups.

 

The young school artists entries in the contest were split into 3 separate age groups. The Western Iowa Youth entries came from the following: Boyer Valley, Charter Oak-Ute, West Monona, and West Harrison Community Schools.

 

Cate's selections were as follows:

 

Kindergarten through 4th Grades:

1st) Briggs Maach, 2nd Grade, Charter Oak-Ute, first place, “Cattle Trailer” art piece.

 

2nd) Charles Lavender, 4th Grade, Charter Oak-Ute, “Art” piece.  

 

3rd) Emmerie Meade, 3rd Grade, Charter Oak-Ute, “Pumpkin Cat”.

 

5th through 8th Grades

 

1st) Ayvalynn Nygaard, 8th Grade, West Monona, “Conflict Among the Cosmos”.

 

2nd) Hannah Peitsch, 7th Grade, Charter Oak-Ute, “Jellyfish”.  “

 

3rd) Juliette Roy, 8th Grade, West Harrison, “Shoe”

 

High School

1st) Ciana Johnson, 11th grade, West Monona, “Daffodils”.

 

2nd) Manah Nichols, 10th grade, West Monona, “Westeria Vine”.

 

3rd) AF Leach, 10th Grade, West Monona, “Fox”.

 

Judges Choice

1st) Erin Lewis, 12th grade, West Harrison, “Portrait”.

 

A judges comment sheet was completed for all 42 entrants by Judge Pam Cates which will be given to the students. Cates stated “All entries had such good positive qualities with a great variety of mediums of the students choice. The art teachers from these schools need to be recognized for their instructions to these art students”.
