Lucke receives Owner-Operator Award

Bill and Babetta Lucke won the Owner-Operator Award at the Harrison County Fair.

Bill and Babetta were married in 1958. Together, they have farmed and raised four children. They practice complete no-till agriculture. They put in terraces, participate in the Conservation Reserve Program, waterways and wetlands, all to “keep the soil in place.”

Babetta was born and raised on the farm. It has been in the family for more than 100 years.

Babetta served on the Harrison County Soil & Water Conservation Board for many years. She also served as the director of the director and treasurer of the Conservation District of Iowa, District 9. They have a 6-acre dam installed in the 1990s and a full-flow structure as part of the Mosquito Waterfront..

The Luckes had four children. Kevin worked for Chevron and farmed. Craig is a mechanical engineer in Salt Lake City. Ann is also a mechanical engineer in Caso, Wash. They also had a daughter who was a pharmacist but who passed in 2001.
