Logan Community Foundation Launches “Operation Beautification”

The Logan, IA Community Foundation is taking a bold first step toward enhancing the look and feel of the community with a new initiative aimed at bringing color, safety, and pride to local streets.

As part of its 2026 “Operation Beautification” campaign, the foundation is partnering with Logan-Magnolia Community School District to design and paint crosswalk murals in the business district—an effort that blends public art with student engagement and pedestrian safety.

Foundation members say the crosswalk mural project represents more than just a visual upgrade. It’s a strategic starting point in a broader effort to invest in community vibrancy and quality of life.

“This is about creating something meaningful with our students and for our community,” said Bri Niedermyer. “We want people to feel proud of where they live, and this is a simple but powerful way to start.”

The project will invite students to contribute ideas and artwork concepts, giving them a hands-on role in shaping their environment. Similar mural initiatives across Iowa and beyond have shown that public art can foster community pride, encourage engagement, and transform everyday spaces into points of connection.

This effort also aligns with ongoing community visioning priorities, including improving safe routes to school and enhancing walkability. Painted crosswalks can serve as both a traffic-calming feature and a visual reminder for drivers to stay alert in high pedestrian areas.

The mural project is underway, and you can expect to see more progress in the coming weeks.

The Logan, IA Community Foundation has gained momentum in recent years through initiatives like its annual gala and investments in local projects, including recreational trails and partnerships with both Logan-Magnolia School District and the City of Logan.

With Operation Beautification now underway, members hope to build on that progress and inspire additional improvements throughout the community.

“This is just the beginning,” Bri Niedermyer said. “We’re excited to see how this project brings people together—and what it leads to next.”

Residents interested in participating or supporting Operation Beautification are encouraged to watch for updates and opportunities through the foundation’s Facebook page in the coming months.
