Elementary Principal Jill Kiger Noteworthy events: This year we have implemented Beanstack to help encourage and track reading. In November the students that read the most minutes in the class had a chance to celebrate by “pieing” Mr. Hedger and Mrs. Kiger. Our students have read over 237,032 minutes so far since we began in October. In February will be participating in “One School One Book”. (Details will come out in late January) Mary Dickinson’s Panther Game Club has been a success with great participation numbers. In addition to recognizing our Capturing Kids Heart winners, I’ve challenged the staff to find others to recognize each month. This little guy’s mom told me she hung it on the fridge and he was so proud! Our building leadership team met Dec. 4 and discussed our curriculum cycle plan for the remainder of the year as well as our work for 2026-2027. Dr. Leonard previewed the materials and work for Dec. 5 with the team so they could support their peers during work time. Our current work is focused on coherence of math vertically and horizontally. This means digging into the standards, analyzing instruction within the curriculum and identifying areas of concern. Then each grade documents this so we can compare vertically. December 10 Mrs. Kiger will be in Des Moines serving on the hiring committee for the next SAI executive director. Staff have done a great job of providing instruction this month and also adding in fun for the season. Elves, gingerbread men, arts and crafts, gift making, and journaling are all areas we do that help us share the joy of the season.
