"New Year – Local Crucial Issues."
So many hot local issues at hand that many may not be aware of, but one at a time will be exposed. Let's focus on the county politics. Back in 2024, the voters of Harrison County elected its first woman Board of Supervisor. Since then, some in our Courthouse have been trying to undermine her, as well as others not in politics, but nonetheless, spreading false accusations. The voters of Harrison County voted her in. While some in the Courthouse can't accept that, tough. All elected officials work for the people; some in office believe it is the other way around.
Harrison County has a major problem with out-of-control property taxes. Taxes on homes and land are increasing 8.5% faster than the combined growth of population and inflation. This is unreasonable. Try appealing your property taxes to the county.
Very close-minded. We have some true county roads that are being spread at times with big boulder-type rock. This has been brought to the attention of some Board of Supervisors, without any results. Once again, two of our Board of
Supervisors refuse to listen to the will of the public on having just one nighttime meeting a month, so those who work can attend and voice their concerns. Keep in mind, those two are up for reelection this year.
Yes, it seems there is a lot of turmoil in our Courthouse. But they must remember that they work for the Harrison County taxpayers. Keeping office hours open throughout the noon hour is crucial. That is the only time some can come over to do business.
Overall, the Harrison County Government should be required to work with and for the taxpayers. 2026 should become the year that the two-party system ends its dominance. The Independents have a right to their opinions and run for offices, as well.
Remember, attend your County meetings, townhalls, legislative coffees, and voice your concerns.
