Jim Wood Foundation donates to Lo-Ma Schools

The Jim Wood Foundation has been working with the Lo-Ma School Board and administration to create an opportunity for those living in the Logan Magnolia school district to utilize the new walking track and weight room for recreation and wellness.

The $300,000 donation to the school will go directly toward the construction of the walking track space around the new Panther Dome. In addition, the foundation and the school have worked together to create a new policy that will allow the community access to these areas.

Starting later this year, anyone living in the Lo-Ma school district will be able to apply to become a member for a small fee. A Key Card will be issued to individuals that will be required for entry and allow community members access to the walking track in the new gym and the weight room, but not the rest of the school. For safety and security, there will be security cameras throughout the area as well. The school board has approved this new policy and the community will initially be allowed into the space during non-school hours.

Mike Dickinson, a member of the Jim Wood Foundation board, stated, “We look forward to seeing how the community utilizes this new opportunity. Our foundation board wants to ensure the community has as much access to the building as possible as long as it works for the school. Maintaining a proper environment for student education will be a priority.”

Logan-Magnolia Superintendent Jacob Hedger shared his and the school’s appreciation for the generosity of the Jim Wood Foundation, stating “The communities of Logan and Magnolia have been extremely generous in their support of the school district throughout this process. The latest donation by the Jim Wood Foundation demonstrates the heart of Jim Wood, the foundation, and the community. We are grateful to have such a supportive community and look forward to working to provide a space that our residents can utilize for years to come.”

Dickinson added, “It's really neat to see this project come together. Jim Wood’s legacy in Logan and the surrounding area has been one that really supports our community. Over the years, his foundation has helped make other large projects become a reality, including the Jim Wood Aquatic Center and Logan's new fire hall. We have also surpassed one million dollars in scholarships given to Lo-Ma graduates. Now, with this donation, our board wanted to share in the excitement the Lo-Ma community has for this construction project at the school. Giving our community shared access to this space will be a great amenity. One we hope many will take advantage of.”

The Jim Wood Foundation has also approved a $40,000 donation to Logan's "Safe Walk to School Program". Later next year, construction of a new outdoor walking track will connect the city of Logan to the school to give better access for those wanting to use the track for recreation or a safe passage to school. This project will pair nicely with the community having access to recreation areas inside the school as well.
