TIGER HOT SHOTS
Tigers’ Hot Shot: Charlie Pryor, Woodbine
Athletes Name: Charlie Pryor, sr. Woodbine
Career Points: 1,577
Senior Season: 481 points (20.9 per game)
Pryor’s thoughts, Describe Shooters Mentality / All the Teammates help you reach this milestone:
A shooter's mentality involves confidence, and a short-term memory. Learning to self-correct and forget about the bad shots is a big thing for great shooters. I wouldn’t be in the position that I am in without my teammates. They have helped me to become the player I am today as they push me and are by my side every step of the way.
Pryor’s thoughts, Favorite gym to shoot in / What did it mean to reach that magical moment, becoming Woodbine’s Career Scoring Queen:
My favorite gym to shoot in is the old gym at Woodbine because of the lighting. Being able to set the scoring record meant a lot to me. To see all of the work that I have put into basketball pay off was a dream come true.
Any Career Highlights that stick out / Big Game performances; Game Winning Shots:
There are a few moments that will forever be etched in my memory. One of my favorites was during my sophomore year in the substrate game against Westwood. Nicole Sherer told me to take the ball up the court because we needed some offense, and I went down and hit a three immediately after she told me that. She comes up to me and is like that’s not what I had in mine, but that was awesome!
In Pryor’s Words – What is the Legacy you Leave behind on Tigers Basketball
The legacy that I have left with Tiger Basketball is to play your hardest no matter the situation, learn how to become the player your team needs you to be, and enjoy all of the little moments with your teammates on and off the court.
Coach Ryan Coenen’s thought on Pryor becoming Woodbine’s All-Time Leading Scorer?:
Charlie would only be Woodbine's 8th highest scorer in 5v5 history, if she never got to step inside of the 3-pt Line. An incredible career for an incredible human.
Charlie is a fantastic basketball player and an even better leader. She exudes confidence and is very goal-driven. Her ability to focus on the task at hand in practice is second to none. The moment she walked into the gym, our team became a much better shooting team – I mean, immediately.
She just raised the bar for everyone in the gym. In 14 years of running our And 1 shooting drill, only Hope Sherer had ever completed it in under five minutes. Charlie has completed the drill at least four times during practice. To cap the drill off, you have to make consecutive 3PT (each from a different spot...any miss and you start over). It's a very tough drill, must make a minimum of 35 3PT, and she has done it under 4:00. Her confidence with the ball in her hands is incredible...and it was earned.
I've witnessed her make 25 consecutive free throws in practice, run a down and back, then make 49 straight free throws to cap it off. Charlie is to our program what Kelsey Plum was to University of Washington. She just breaks all the drills (much like her cousin, Layne, in the weight room).
Charlie had the ultimate Green Light. We will miss her dearly. But I will always cherish the memories she created with her uncanny work ethic and desire to win.

Tigers’ Hot Shot: Carter Gruver, Woodbine
Athletes Name: Carter Gruver, sr., Woodbine
Career Points: 1,592
Senior Season: 434 points (16.7 per game)
Gruver’s thoughts on career achievement / Becoming Woodbine’s Career All-Time Leading Scorer?:
It’s a pretty cool achievement to reach. Starting out as a freshman I would’ve never imagined being where I am today. It’s one of those things where you just put your head down and keep working and good things will happen.
Gruver’s Thoughts, Describe Shooters Mentality / All the Teammates help you reach this milestone:
When it comes to shooter’s mentality, it’s all about confidence. After you see the first one go in you keep shooting and when you can shoot lights out that opens up everything else including my teammates. It makes it easy to hit shots when you’re open because you got other threats on the floor with you that open you up.
Gruver’s Thoughts, Favorite gym to shoot in / What did it mean to reach that magical moment, becoming Woodbine’s Career Scoring King:
My favorite gym to shoot in is definitely our own high school gym. I will say I hold a special place for the court outside by the tennis courts in Woodbine. That’s where it all started.
It’s pretty awesome to be the all-time scoring leader in Woodbine. But at the end of the day, I’m just happy. I got to play basketball with my best friends.
Any Career Highlights that stick out / Big Game performances; Game Winning Shots:
Some highlights that stick out to me are our team practices and bus rides. Nothing will beat the memories that my teammates and I made together on and off the court. If I were to choose a certain game, it would be my junior year when we upset Madrid to advance to the state tournament.
In Gruver’s Words – What is the Legacy you Leave behind on Tigers Basketball:
I hope I made a positive impact on my teammates, coaches, and the community. I hope I showed the underclassman how to lead by example and work harder when nobody’s watching.
I hope I showed them that it’s the time you put in when it’s the off-season that makes you better. I hope I was a great role model for each and every single one of them and I hope I made their experiences memorable.
Coach Kyle Bartel’s thoughts on Gruver becoming Woodbine’s All-Time Leading Scorer?:
This achievement just shows that his hard work and dedication paid off. I’m not sure if Carter set out to be the all-time leading scorer in school history when he was a freshman, but I know he had the mindset to win every basketball game. I think that mindset helped lead to this accomplishment. He is a great leader and teammate, and I couldn’t be happier for him to reach this milestone.
