Another year has flown by, and listed below is the some of the area highlights seen on the Harrison County Times-Reporter sports pages this past calendar year.
There were several highlights throughout the entire year, and I choose to maintain a level of consistency and not expand. Its’ my opinion, and I hope you enjoy.
10) Panther Dome Built: The Logan-Magnolia School District laid the foundation for the future the opening of the brand new ‘Panther Dome’ on Oct. 4, 2025. This brand new, state of the art facility is the envy of everyone in the Western Iowa Conference and surrounding area. They have hosted a couple high school volleyball varsity matches in early October, and hosted the Western Iowa Conference wrestling championships in late December to cap off the calendar year.
9) High School Summer Sports: It was another solid summer on the diamonds for the area high school squads, as Woodbine softball (19-7, 2025 RVC Champions / Class 1A Regional Final); Woodbine baseball (16-7, RVC Runner-Up, Class 1A District Finalist) and Missouri Valley softball (29-7, WIC, Third Place, Class 3A Regional Final) all came within one game from a State Tournament appearance.
8) Woodbine Tigers, Boys State Basketball: The Tigers won their second straight Rolling Valley Conference regular season championship, posting four impressive district tournament wins, including their second win in three tries over a strong Coon Rapids-Bayard squad in the Substate Final. The Tigers were tripped up in the opening round of the Class 1A State Tournament, but they have started this season (2025-26) strong and have sets their sights on another strong post-season run.
7) State Track Recap: It was another amazing run on the blue oval at Drake Stadium in Des Moines for the 2025 Iowa High School State Track Championships. The area girls teams/individuals were paced by Woodbine’s 4 x 800 m (12th place finish); Boyer Valley’s Morgan Hast (10th place / 100 m dash); Lo-Ma’s Allysen Johnsen (7th place, 3000 m; 11th place, 1500 m run). BOYER VALLEY’s boys set a new school record in the distance medley relay (9th place, Owen Garside, Levi Reineke, Justin Heiman, Dane Gorham), with Gorham adding a 7th place finish in the 800 m run. LOGAN-MAGNOLIA added five top-10 finishes in the 4 x 100 m relay (7th place, Drake Geith, Cael Wallis, Wes Vana, Will Anderson); Sprint Medley Relay (8th place, Geith, Ashton Peszulik, Will Anderson, Brodie Davis); Brodie Davis (9th place, 400 m dash) and Will Anderson (4th place, 200 m dash). WOODBINE (Class 1A, 5th place), had an outstanding effort with Jax Pryor (6th place, shot put); Landon Blum (2nd place, high jump), and Brody Pryor (6th place, 200 m dash) leading the way. The Tigers also added top finishes in the 4 x 100 m, 9th place; 4 x 200 m, 3rd place; 4 x 400 m, state finalists).
6) Boys State Wr: Logan-Magnolia’s Corbin Reisz pinned down his second straight Class 1A State title, finishing the season 56-0 and earning his fourth state wrestling medal. Crosby Yoder (51-3, 8th place), Max Wingert (42-13), Kalab Kuhl (48-12), Aaron Cordell (37-18), and Carson Edney (26-2), Woodbine’s Lawson Bendgen (38-10), Lucas Olson (33-7), and Missouri Valley’s Vinny Zappia (42-13), Luke Schroeder (47-10) and Owen Becerra (53-12) all finished their season on the state’s biggest stage.
5) Track, State Champs: The area finished with two State Champions at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Woodbine’s Brody Pryor, Landon Blum, Micah Moores and Dillon Reed claimed the Class 1A Sprint Medley State Championship, with Logan-Magnolia’s Will Anderson earning the Class 1A 100 m dash State Title. Anderson, who made his third straight state appearance at the Drake Relays in April, earned a 6th place finish in the All-Class State Finals.
4) State Golf: Woodbine boys kept getting better throughout the season, as the 2025 Rolling Valley Conference champions picked up top finishes at both the sectional and district tournament to earn their first team appearance at the 2025 Boys State Golf Championships. Individually, Cody Dickinson (16th), Cal Pryor (23rd), Carson Kelley (34th), Skyler Stolley (40th), Xander Johnsen (40th) and Carter Gruver (44th) landed top-50 spots in the state, leading the Tigers to a Class 1A 3rd place finish. On the girls side, Boyer Valley’s sweet-swinging Reece Miller made her first appearance at the Girls State Golf Championships, as she earned a 65th place finish in a strong Class 1A field.
3) Girls State Wr: The area girls wrestling teams pinned down a ton of success this past season (2024-25), as they finished with six individual state qualifiers at the 2025 Girls State Wrestling Championships (X-Tream Arena, Coralville), and they returned with five state medals. Leading the way was freshmen sensation Teagan Carritt (Logan-Magnolia), who upset the nationally ranked top-seed in the second round, allowing her to pin her way to the first girls state wrestling title in Lo-Ma school history. Nancy Bowman (40-7, 2nd place), Jordan Buffum (46-10, 6th place), and Missouri Valley’s Jocelyn Buffum (39-8, 4th place) and Ryley Marcum (42-4, 6th place) all returned with state medals.
2) State Baseball: It was an unbelievable year for the Logan-Magnolia baseball team, as they rose to every challenge, made the routine plays, and swung for the fences in uncharted territory. The Panthers, who finished in second place in the Western Iowa Conference regular season, won 12 of the final 14 games of the regular season, recorded huge wins over Woodbine (2-0) in the district final, and Class 1A, #3 Coon Rapids-Bayard (3-1) in the Class 1A Substate Final. The Kurtis Hinkel led Panthers made their first appearance at the 2025 Iowa High School Boys State Baseball Championships at historic Merchants Park/Carroll Stadium.
1) State Football: Woodbine football completed a season for the ages, as they used a steady combination of a stout, hard hitting defense paired with a prolific high flying offense. The 8-Man, District 10 Champions rolled to wins over Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton, Southeast Warren, and Fremont-Mills to secure their first appearance in the State Semifinals (UNI-Dome, Cedar Falls). Woodbine outlasted Gladbrook-Reinbeck in the state semifinals before falling one fourth quarter defensive stop in the final seconds, falling to Algona Bishop Garrigan in the 2025 8-Man State Championship.
