LYNN GOODRICH
CITY/TOWN: Logan
CANDIDATE FOR: Missouri Valley School Board
EXPLAIN WHO YOU ARE: My name is Lynn Goodrich. My wife, Leana and I have lived in the MV Community School district since 2014. We have two daughters, Hannah and Heidi, and our son-in-law, Evan. I have owned and operated Goodrich Tile and Stone for the past 23 years. For the last eight years, I have also assisted my wife with our family’s musical theatre productions at Goodrich Music Studio. I am an elected trustee for St. John’s Township, holding that role for ten years. I was recently placed on the Harrison County Board of Adjustment and I have been a Central Committee member for the Harrison County Republican Party for many years.
WHY DID YOU RUN FOR THIS POSITION? My purpose in running for this position is, while I see strengths in our school, there are also some areas of concern. One is communication. I would like to see more opportunities for community involvement and input, such as committees and round table discussions. In the past couple of years, our school has brought on another district, joining with our activities. As this continues, the need for increased communication will be paramount. Second, I believe that the current culture of our school needs attention, as it has become fractured in some ways. We need to return to a deeper level of respect and excellence of character. Since we are preparing students for life after high school, high expectations for our learning atmosphere and behavior need to be a top priority. In the recent months, I have had opportunities to discuss some areas of concern with our current school board president. His listening ear and quick responses to my questions and concerns inspired me to run for school board. I thank him for his years of service.
WHAT FROM YOUR BACKGROUND QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS POSITION? My background qualifications include studying accounting in college, which I believe has helped to give me a strong financial insight. I have also run a successful business, which has given me opportunities to deal with construction on multiple levels, customer service, and problem solving. The musicals I have helped my wife with have allowed me time to build relationships with students and community members. Working on the various county boards has helped me to become a better listener, communicator, and problem solver at a community level.
WHAT ARE YOU GOALS IF ELECTED? If elected, my goals are to be an approachable member of the school board that will be a sounding board for the community. Also, I would work with administration and staff to help MVCSD to continue on an upward path in education. I would like to encourage growth within our school system, as well as welcoming those who may consider furthering their education at MVCSD.
