DAVID WEIGELT
CITY/TOWN: Magnolia
CANDIDATE FOR: Mayor
EXPLAIN WHO YOU ARE: I am the current mayor of Magnolia and have been married to Janette for 23 years. We have 7 children, 10 grandkids, 3 great-grandkids with 1 more on the way. We are both retired, so we have time to travel and enjoy sights in the country. I retired from the Union Pacific Railroad 9 years ago from the Bridge and Building Group. In retirement, I keep busy attending meetings representing Magnolia. Various groups I’m part of include Harrison County Assessor Conference Board member. Emergency Management Agency Committee member, Co-chair of the Emergency Management Agency Committee, 911 Committee member, Harrison County Landfill Commission member for Magnolia. I am also President of the Magnolia Old Settlers Association and Janette is the treasurer. They help coordinate and plan the Old Settlers Festival held the 3rd Saturday of August each year. When I stay home,, I work around our house, work on the family farm as well as improve rental properties we own. We attend events throughout the year, supporting various communities. We try to see grandchildren’s events when they are fairly close. Family means a lot to me and I am the President of the Archer Family Reunion. Planning for this event is done once a year.
WHAT FROM YOUR BACKGROUND QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS POSITION? My qualifications would be my past 10 years of being mayor and willing to attend and learn from classes that are offered to officials.
WHAT ARE YOU GOALS IF ELECTED? We will continue to work on our city code codification process to make Magnolia a better residential community. Continue to answer constituents' questions when asked. Sometimes the answer isn’t always what people want to hear or expect. I am thankful for the last 10 years and hope to have your support for another 2 years.
