BENJAMIN SCHAUER
CITY/TOWN: Dunlap
CANDIDATE FOR: City Council
EXPLAIN WHO YOU ARE: I am a music teacher, community leader and organizer, and passionate private citizens that wants to see our small town reach its highest potential. I have lived in Dunlap for 10 years and recently took on the adventure of hosting an exchange student for the 2025-26 school year. I am a current city councilman, serve on DCDC, and am active in many community and school events.
WHY DID YOU RUN FOR THIS POSITION? I’m running for reelection to ensure our local government works for us and our future. We are experiencing outstanding progress and growth while many small towns around us are seeing stagnation and decay. In these uncertain times, we need tested leaders that are running for the good of the people and progress of the community and can clearly articulate their vision. I’ve got a proven track record of success with a growing list of accomplishments that have improved the everyday life of Dunlap’s citizens, and I am running to continue this progress. I love my adopted hometown, and I am honored to once more put my name forward to serve my fellow citizens.
WHAT FROM YOUR BACKGROUND QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS POSITION? I’m already doing the job! I was appointed in 2020 to fill a vacancy and then won my seat in the 2021 municipal election. It’s been a fruitful 5 years, and I’d like to see us continue down the same path of progress.
I have also spent extensive hours learning the ins and outs of city management in addition to keeping up to date with statehouse legislation that will impact our taxpayers. My goal is to spend your tax dollars efficiently, and the progress in town speaks for itself that we are doing just that. Through creative public/private partnerships and excellent relations with the school district and the Dunlap Community Development Corporation, we have stretched our tax dollars further than I could have ever imagined and are still securing wins for the town in much needed areas like public safety, public amenities, accessibility, recreation, and overall town pride and culture.
WHAT ARE YOU GOALS IF ELECTED? As your councilman, I have always pledged to be open minded on all matters brought before me, and I make that promise again.
1) As always, I am dedicated to ensuring our tax dollars are used in a way that benefits our citizens and invests in our future.
2) Current council priorities include much needed updates to our waste management system and city shed. I look forward to seeing those come to fruition and planning our next major infrastructure project to benefit the citizens of Dunlap.
3) Housing is a personal area of focus, and I am in the works to launch a housing task force at the end of the year to gauge our needs, opportunities, and coordinate local entities for potential projects.
4) Streets are also a priority, and I am committed to continuing the systematic repair we have undertaken as we work through decades of neglect.
5) I will continue the productive partnerships we have with the Boyer Valley School District, Dunlap Community Development Corporation, and local grant writing organizations. These partnerships that have helped pay for many of our recreational, accessibility, and beautification upgrades and allows our tax dollars to stretch further.
6) As one of our iconic recreational areas, I am committed to the current project to clean, preserve, and maintain the dam at Pleasantview Park.
