Wildcats tip Panthers
Logan-Magnolia did exactly what they had hoped by keeping the game close, but Woodbury Central pulled out a 33-14 win over the Panthers in Class A, D-8 action on Oct. 10 in Moville.
“It was a six-point game early in the fourth quarter,” stated Head Coach Matt Straight. “We blocked a punt inside their 15-yd line. They picked it up, ran for a first down, and scored on a long TD the next play. We had momentum, but lost it in two plays.”
Brodie Davis finished with 154 yards and one touchdown, as Wade Perkins hauled in his first high school touchdown reception. Crosby Yoder (4 receptions/72 yards), Carson Edney (4-42) and Jason Kastner (3-24) were the top targets.
Defensively, Tyson Jenkins (14 tackles), Edney (13 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 blocked punt) and Jason Kastner (8 tackles, 1 blocked punt) led a solid defensive effort.
“Jenkins and Edney dominated on the defensive side, and when we play like that, we can play with the top teams in our class,” Straight concluded. “(This week), We have plenty of incentive to finish the season strong. We want to send the seniors out on a high note.”
Up Next (Oct. 17): Logan-Magnolia (2-3, 4-3) will host Akron-Westfield in the Class A, District 8 regular season finale at the Uel ‘F’ Bob Evans Sports Complex in Logan this week. This will also be Senior Night for the Lo-Ma Panthers.
