Vikings get past Big Reds

The Big Reds responded like they had to in the first quarter, but untimely miscues defined the season opener at AHSTW topped Missouri Valley, 30-8, in the Week 0 season opening game on Aug. 21 at Avoca.

“One step forward, two steps back, that’s how we were the entire night,” stated Head Coach Jake Driver about the Big Reds in the season opener. “We were close, and we battled every snap, and we saw some good things.”

Missouri Valley recovered from a first quarter turnover, as Jack Handlos hauled in a 21-yard scoring pass from Dylan Davis.

But first game miscues defined the game, as Missouri Valley was 0-2 on fourth down conversions, finished with seven penalties (65 yds) and committed two turnovers.

“Winning games comes down to attention the detail, as I have stressed every day since starting practice. We weren’t nearly as sharp as we needed to be – Now we Build,” Driver concluded.

Up Next (Aug. 28): Missouri Valley (0-1) will be at Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto Charter Oak-Ute (Mapleton) to continue to season this week.
