Tigers shut down ‘Dogs, claim D-10 Title
The offense gets the headlines, but the defense slammed the door, and Woodbine placed an exclamation point on the District 10 Championship with a convincing 62-7 win over Boyer Valley on Oct. 10 in Woodbine. It was the Tigers first outright District Championships since 1997.
“We did what we had to do, our offense was efficient and the defense was suffocating,” stated Tigers’ Head Coach Dustin Crook. “We challenged our guys to step up the intensity after halftime, it was a great way to end the regular season.”
Woodbine’s Brody Pryor had a solid night (167 yards passing, 3 TDs; 95 yds rushing, 2 TDs). Micah Moores (61 yards rushing, 1 TD; 74 yard kickoff return for TD) and Landon Blum (48 receiving yards, 2 TDs) had productive offensive nights.
Defensively, Joe Freund (14 tackles), Brenner Sullivan (10 tackles) and Brenden Wagner (3 tackles, 1 INT) led a solid defensive effort.
“We still have some things to work on, but overall, happy with how we finished it off,” Crook concluded. “Now we’ll get some rest and wait to see who we play first.”
Boyer Valley’s Brody Koski (93 yards passing, 1 TD), Logan Thomsen (1 TD) led the way for the Bulldogs offense. Levi Reineke (9 tackles), Tristen Burkhart (5 tackles), Koski (5 tackles), and Cael Soma (4 tackles) led a solid defensive effort for the Bulldogs.
“We played fairly well, but we couldn’t sustain anything,” stated Bulldogs Head Coach Jeremy Christiansen. “We had that final scoring drive right before half, but that was it. We’ll look for the positives, fix the fundamentals and take the next game approach.”
Up Next (Oct. 17): Woodbine (5-0, 7-0) finished off the regular season, and will await the first round playoff pairings. Boyer Valley (2-2, 5-2) must regroup quickly and look for a strong finish when they host Sidney for Senior Night at McAllister Field in Dunlap.
