Big Reds Heartbreak
Missouri Valley fought to the end, but came up one point short in a 14-13 loss to Red Oak in the Class 1A, District 8 opener on Sept. 19.
“These past two to three games, we’ve battled to the end and gave ourselves a chance to win,” stated Head Coach Dontae Allen. “I feel bad for the team, as the knew this could be our break-through game. We definitely had our chances.”
Red Oak scored twice in under two minutes late in the second quarter, and held the slim lead late until the fourth quarter. MV’s Jack Handlos one-yard power dive brought the Big Reds to within one point. After a failed two-point conversion, the Big Reds recovered the ensuing onside kick, but did not convert the final possession.
“We displayed the grit and determination it takes to win games like that, but we didn’t get the execution we had to have,” Allen concluded. “We’re close, we’ll learn a lot from this game and continue to build.”
Up Next (Sept. 26): Missouri Valley (0-1, 0-4) will host Shenandoah for Homecoming in Class 1A, District 8 action at the Big Reds Stadium.
