Volunteers needed in Dunlap in July

Dunlap seeks volunteers for Fourth of July, RAGBRAI events

With two major summer events approaching, Dunlap organizers are calling on community members to step up and volunteer to help ensure both celebrations run smoothly.

Local committees are currently seeking volunteers for Dunlap’s annual Fourth of July festivities and its upcoming RAGBRAI stop, both of which require significant community support.

For the July 4 celebration, organizers are asking volunteers to commit to one-hour shifts monitoring inflatable attractions between the hours of 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. As an incentive, volunteers who sign up will receive a free Fourth of July T-shirt and an activities wristband, a combined value of $35.

Organizers say the short time commitment makes it easy for residents to get involved while still enjoying the festivities.

“It takes a lot of individuals to make the Fourth of July go off with a bang,” organizers said, noting that volunteer participation is key to keeping activities safe and enjoyable for all attendees.

In addition to the Independence Day celebration, Dunlap is also preparing to welcome cyclists and visitors during RAGBRAI on Sunday, July 19th. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles, including staffing the information booth, restocking supplies in portable restrooms, hanging signage, driving shuttle vans, assisting vendors with setup, providing general assistance and troubleshooting, and helping with post- event cleanup.

Liberty Monk, a representative of both the Fourth of July Committee and the Dunlap RAGBRAI Committee, emphasized the importance of giving back.

“This town gave me so much growing up, and volunteering is how I show my gratitude,” Monk said. “I hope others feel inspired to step in and be a part of that too.”

Those interested in volunteering for either event can find more information by visiting DunlapIA.com under the “Events and Recreation” tab. Questions can be directed to Jill Schaben at DunlapDCDC@gmail.com or by calling (712) 643-2164.

Organizers encourage residents of all ages to consider volunteering, noting that community involvement plays a vital role in the success of Dunlap’s largest summer events.
