The Dunlap Community Development Corporation (DCDC) has announced the results of its 2026 board election, with one incumbent re-elected and two new members joining the organization’s leadership.

Longtime board member Julie Elder was re-elected to serve another four-year term. She will be joined by newly elected board members Walter Schaben and Hunter Soma.

Elder, who has served on the board for several years, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue her work with the organization.

“It’s been an honor to be part of this group for so long,” Elder said. “I’m thrilled to be re-elected and to continue investing time and resources into our amazing small community.”

She emphasized her deep connection to Dunlap and its future.

“Being able to contribute to the community I’ve loved since I was a child brings more joy than I can express,” Elder said. “Not all small communities have the opportunity to do big things, but we are blessed that Dunlap does. I’m proud to be raising my children here and showing them all the possibilities our community offers.”

Soma, one of the newly elected members, said he is eager to begin serving.

“Growing up in Dunlap has been such a blessing, and the word ‘community’ means so much more here,” Soma said. “It’s an honor to be elected to DCDC and give back. I’m looking forward to my time on the board.”

Schaben also shared his appreciation and vision for the role.

“I’m incredibly honored to have been elected to serve this community,” Schaben said. “This community means a lot to me, and I’m grateful for the trust that’s been placed in me.”

He added that he is excited about collaboration and continued growth.

“What excites me most is the opportunity to bring people together, build on what’s already working and find new ways to make a positive impact,” Schaben said. “I believe strong communities are built through collaboration, and I’m excited to work alongside such passionate and dedicated individuals.”

According to DCDC Executive Director Jill Schaben, the election drew strong community interest.

“We appreciate all DCDC members who support our mission and are grateful to everyone who participated in the recent election,” she said. “It was exciting to see such a high level of interest from individuals wanting to serve on the board. The combination of fresh ideas and the experience of seasoned members positions us well for the future.”

DCDC has played a significant role in community development efforts in recent years, including securing grants, supporting local economic development initiatives and organizing community events.

Newly elected board members will take their seats at DCDC’s upcoming annual meeting on May 11 at 6 p.m. at the DCDC Building, 612 Iowa Ave in Dunlap. This annual meeting is open to the public.
