Dunlap Community Foundation opens first-ever grant cycle April 1

The Dunlap Community Foundation will open applications April 1 for its first-ever grant cycle, marking a new chapter in long-term charitable giving for the community.

Applications will be accepted through April 30 and a link is available online at DunlapCommunityFoundation.com. Grant recipients will be announced in June.

Any organization with 501(c)3 nonprofit status serving the Dunlap area is invited to apply. Approximately $10,000 will be awarded during this inaugural cycle, with that amount expected to grow annually as donations and investments continue to build the fund.

The Dunlap Community Foundation is structured as an endowment fund — a permanent, invested pool of assets designed to provide lasting financial support to the community. Each year, only a portion of the investment earnings is distributed through grants, while the principal remains invested to grow over time. The model creates a sustainable and predictable source of funding for impactful local projects and causes.

Funds are managed by the Community Foundation of Southwest Iowa, which provides investment oversight and administrative support.

The foundation is guided by its inaugural advisory board: Matt Burkhart, Lisa Gross, Margo Hansen, Dewey Petersen, and Jake Schaben. Advisory board members will serve rotating terms, allowing additional community members to participate in leadership in future years.

Foundation leaders say the goal of the first grant cycle is not only to distribute funding, but also to build awareness and excitement around the long-term opportunity the endowment creates for Dunlap.

Eligible organizations are encouraged to review application guidelines and submit proposals by the April 30 deadline.
