Red Oak became the latest school to join the high school conference shuffle, as their school board unanimously approved (7-0) leaving the Hawkeye-10 conference at their school board meeting (Aug. 20), and joining the Western Iowa Conference, starting in the 2027-28 school year.
Both Red Oak and Shenandoah were charter members of the Hawkeye-10 when it was originally formed 90 years ago.
The Western Iowa Conference Board of Officials accepted both school districts invitations on Aug. 21, and now must wait upon being approved by the state conference realignment committee.
The schools are set to become official WIC members at the start of the 2027-28 school year.
Current WIC schools include, AHSTW (Avoca), Logan-Magnolia, Missouri Valley, Riverside, Treynor, Tri-Center, Underwood, with IKM-Manning (2026-27) and Audubon (2027-28) joining the Rolling Valley Conference in the next two years.
Late Monday evening (after press time), the Treynor School District officially voted to stay in the Western Iowa Conference.
